Your Right To Vote
Written by Joshua Emmanuel Go
As a citizen of our fair republic, it is guaranteed by our constitution that we have the right to vote. It is up to us whether or not we exercise this right to choose our leaders, both at the national and local levels, to help build our nation and community. It is a chance to make a difference in our nation and not plunge the country into an abyss of antipathy and stagnation. The year 2022 is proving itself to be a time of higher turnout and a lot of new voters.
That is not to say that all would exercise their right to vote. Many are still not on the voter rolls, not due to the lack of effort to convince them to register, but more of the apathy this country suffers from, especially coming from those going into their thirties to even fifties casting their vote for the first time.
However, there is palpable excitement among the newly registered voters who will cast their votes in the election. Such excitement is a rare moment of political awakening for many. And it is everyone’s duty to keep that spark alive. This excitement in the political process should be kept alive to catalyze new waves of people wanting their voices to be heard. Our efforts to keep that hope and spark alive will help organize a better future for our nation.
