Students shared their tips and tricks on surviving OrCom major subjects in the annual Ace Your Acads talks hosted by the Organizational Communication Society from September 16-18, 2020. The three-day series included talks on college algebra, communication GEs, interpersonal and intercultural communication, technical writing, and introduction to public relations. In the session for freshies, second-year student Jaira Purificacion presented her tips on how to pass and ace Math 11, a subject known for its notorious examinations. Aside from recommending study groups and buddies, she also emphasized that Math is not only significant to the STEM students but also to communication majors as well. She further emphasized that “math is supposed to make sense even to OrCom majors!” Similarly, second-year student Elycia Deang detailed her experience surviving Communication 1 and 2, in which she stressed the importance of asking questions in order to expand and deepen the discussion during classes.

Aside from the freshies, sophomores also received tips from third-year students Kate Garcia and Joven Jacolbia on surviving Orcom 104 and 107, respectively. Both speakers detailed how collaboration helped them improve their writing skills through peer evaluation. They also highlighted the need to establish good working relationships with their professors, especially under the remote learning setup. Lastly, OrCom alumni Gab Lagmay and Alexis Villa Juan shared some tricks to ace Orcom 105 and 110, respectively. Aside from the particular skills needed for each subject, both speakers also emphasized the need to prepare for the papers and reports in both subjects. Despite the usage of virtual platforms, this year’s Ace Your Acads was well attended by students and recorded a high number of attendees compared to past years.
