Streets, Trains, Lights, and Thoughts
Written by Kyna Marquez
You asked him to come see you
because everyone else was busy.
He got on his bicycle
and rushed towards your home.
Because for him, there was only you.
I took the same train you did.
Just to admire you.
Like the way we used to gaze on stars. My eyes were filled with unrequited admiration.

Ang tagal ko nang naghihintay.
Masakit. Nakakapagod.
Pero maghihintay pa rin.
Kasi alam kong dadating ka
at alam mong hindi kita palalampasin.

In a sea of people, I would not look at you.
I’d rather hold you tight.
Warm your hands in the same intense way those LEDs light.

Green.
She took the cab and left.
Yellow.
She left you with a kiss on a forehead.
Red.
Kiss that halted the marvelous tune.
Stumped.
How cruel is it that you wanted more but received less?

We agreed to wait.
We agreed to meet.
In the end, we just crossed paths.
We’ll meet.
Someday, if we still agree to wait.

I wish I did not mind you.
Just like the way I was invincible to you
As you were lost in your phone.
But there you were,
Standing still.
Slowly, making me a thief.
Stealing glances.
Slowly, making me holy.
She’s a cold person,
but she would have loved it
if you ate with her at 4 am
just because you liked her company.
He’s a warm person,
And would have stayed the same
if you told him you loved him back too.
