OrComSoc President 21.22 Signing Off
Stepping into this opportunity is something my freshie self wouldn’t have imagined for herself. But, good thing, senior Gelle did it. My journey to becoming the organization’s president started when I applied for JVP. My JVP experience made me realize I have potential, and I just needed confidence. Balancing org works and acad reqs was not a joke. It was challenging! So, as a masochist myself, I applied the following year again as the VP for Externals. Just kidding! It wasn’t being a masochist, but it was having a thirst for growth. Maybe that is one of the main takeaways I got from being an active member of OrComSoc, and I’m so grateful for that.

Another thing that impacted me in this journey was having a mentor. I was lucky enough to have a mentor who was always there to guide me in this venture and shape the leader figure in me. I will always be grateful for the learnings she has imparted to me. (Thank you, John!)
This school year, I made a bold choice to run for my current position. It was daunting yet thrilling. Ever since I submitted my application for candidacy, my doubts never stopped knocking on me. There will always be those mini voices. But, every time I have those, the universe ALWAYS makes its ways to remind me that I can do this responsibility, especially with the help of my team.
As I navigate this venture, I’m so glad to have worked with people who have the greatest and most creative minds. I cannot emphasize how lucky I am to have them on both my sides in this beautiful journey. ExeCom 21-22, I am so thankful for everything we have shared together— the creative ideas, solid insights, late-night chikas, and unending laughter. Besides mentioned, the one thing I would never forget about us is our synergy. We may not be perfect individually; but our synergy fills these gaps and makes us a powerful team.
To the next president, I know you know who you are. Remember that your team got you the same way you got them. But learn how to trust yourself and your potential first. Acknowledge that you’re equipped with the skills and experiences to become a president. You’ve been in OrComSoc for quite some time. I’m 100% sure you are ready now! Can’t wait to meet you soon.
