The Organizational Communication Society warmly welcomed its new members with the most-awaited acquaintance party last October 1. Titled “OBB’s Big Night”, the event showcased each members’ talents and skills that the world ought to see. The party is organized by the Junior Executive applicants with the help of several partners and sponsors. The event had two fun games that got the members on their feet and the night ended with the presentation of the A.Y. 2021-2022 Junior Executives.

The first game is called Houseraid. Following the iconic “house tasks” in Pinoy Big Brother, Orcom members were tasked to work with their pre-assigned teams and provide various household items. Houseraid upped its stakes as a more challenging rendition of the never-dying “bring me” game by categorizing each household item in different difficulties. Each team is given three minutes to gather the listed things. Team leaders were not allowed to participate as they will aid the game facilitator in scoring the team. However, the team leader may strategize and create the team’s plan to secure all the items. Once the time is up, the game facilitator deliberated each item shown to the camera and noted their corresponding scores.

House Your Acting proceeded after the Houseraid. In this part, the acting skills of OrCom students were put to test. Eight teams were formed to reenact the famous bardagulan scenes from the hit reality TV show, Pinoy Big Brother. Before the event, OrComSoc members were divided into eight teams to prepare for this game. Each team came up with their creative and comical names–some are inspired by the TV show, while some are random at most: Chiunami, Ningning, Conn3ct, COMM4th, Patrick’s Stars, OBBabes, Evelyn, and Houzem8s.  Each of them has also selected their award-winning actors who are up for the challenge. 

At the start, the teams were provided with a transcript of the scenes to be reenacted. Short clips of the bardagulan scenes were also played for their references. The bardagulan scenes were sourced from the wide span of seasons in PBB. Among the scenes reenacted included the famous scene with Bea saying the line “Alam mo yung respeto, di yan ini-impose, Maricris, ine-earn yan!” and Slater calling Paco out for accusing the housemates of being “plastic.” 

The tension must have been high for the PBB scenes but the whole segment was filled with amusement. Truly, OrCom students can fit in any role anyone wants them to be. Talk about being a jack of all trades!

            Finally, the curtains of tonight’s event close with the awarding of the games’ winners and the chosen Junior Executive applicants. The grand winner of Houseraid is Team Comm4th as they managed to gather the most items out of eight teams. In House Your Acting, four teams were given recognition for their acting performance, facial expression, and line delivery. Coming in 4th place is Team 6: OBBabes, followed by Team 1: Chiunami. Meanwhile, Team 2: Ningning bags the second place award. Last but not the least, the first place award was given to Team 8: Houzm8s.

         After the awarding of the two games, it was time for the exciting announcement of OBB’s Big Winner. From the discipline, camaraderie, sense, and spirit the teams showcased in their participation in the OBB Big Night, two teams were meticulously picked from the bunch: one to take home the Runner-Up title, and the other, the star of the night: the Big Winner itself. The team that was selected as OBB’s Runner-Up was Team 6: OBBabes. The most-awaited announcement for the night shortly followed, with Team 8 Houzm8s, once again proving their stellar qualities by being dubbed AS OBB’s Big Night’s 2021 Big Winner.

         Indeed, the eventful Acquaintance Party of OrComSoc members wouldn’t end without the awarding of the new slate of Junior Executives. Below are the candidates and the titles awarded to them:

• Jasmine Santos – JVP for Internals-Events 

To close the awarding for the JVPs and the whole OBB Big Night 2021 party, the Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Bryan Mallari for his excellent performance as the host of OrComSoc’s Acquaintance Party.

OrComSoc’s 2021 Acquaintance Party is surely a night to remember. Despite the party’s virtual setup, OrComSoc warmly welcomed its members with fun games that had everyone on their toes, laughing and chattering. Truly, no one can beat OrComSoc when it comes to house parties!
