Unlikely

Played a lesbian twice and found it nice,
and looking forward to the next time.
Dear unlikely,
Under the flags of color, I stand.
Arms stained with paint.
Holding your hand,
while breathing in,
and breathing out life.
My rib cage quickly expanding and contracting.
Chasing that breath.
This single breath of air I share with you.
My hands on your waist.
You leaned in.
Your hair against my cheeks.
Your laughter in my ears.
Our skin touching.
Both of us thriving to stay in a land
where flowers can love their kind,
and bees are free from
and making sweetness
out of mandate.
If being myself, makes me a rebel.
If being brave, makes me queer.
If being in love with you, makes me unnatural.
Then let it be.
In the same way, rainbows don’t always appear after the rain.
We can’t always fix insecurities.
We can’t always calm egos.
In the end, we can only be ourselves.
Be bravely ourselves.
In times of doubt,
where succumbing to a spiral of anger and fear
seems to be the only way out,
the single path to be free.
Read this,
and let your thoughts be cleared.
Lovely is the heart
that beats for what’s
underneath the skin
and measures the soul.
Lucky are the eyes
that see more than
what’s between
a person’s legs.
Gifted are the noses
that love the scent
of Calvin Klein’s One
on a woman.
Blessed are the ears
who can both hear and listen
to high pitched voices
on men.
Courageous are the hands
that dare to color
monochrome walls.
Admirable are the lips
that kiss because of feeling
and not of rules.
Stunning are the hips
that bravely move to the rhythm of
freedom and desire.
Revolutionary is the love that persists and rises
above convention,
above underestimation,
and above ridicule.
Revolutionary is the happiness that blossoms
in the most unlikely of times,
in the most unlikely of places,
and in the most unlikely of people.
You’re my unlikely.
Thank you for making me happy,
and for making me brave enough to be me.
xoxo
your “different” lover
